1、Introduction to Program
The Music Department of College of Art in SCAU was established in 2005. The four-year undergraduate program music education and performance was established in 2006 and adjusted as musicology (music performance) according to the social demands in 2008. In 2018, two more four-year undergraduate programs were established: the music performance and the musicology.
Teachers in the music department have profound knowledge. Now we have 16 teachers, among whom are 3 professors, 6 external professors and 4 associate professors. Most of our teachers are graduated in famous universities and colleges of music, and many of them have educated or had academic visit in such countries and states as England, Japan, Ukraine, Italy, America, Australia, Hongkong and Taiwan. 93% of their degrees are above master’s degree (including the master’s degree). Many teachers have been invited to be judges of authoritative competitions. Students of Music Department have won more than 200 gold and copper medals in many professional competitions. For example, they have got first prices in competitions including Songs Praising China in Guangdong, Guangdong Top Ten Singer Contest, Guangdong-College Vocal Music Contest and all professional groups including the recent Fourth College Vocal Music Contest. Our achievements are brilliant, and our vocal music level may be higher than some senior colleges. Piano students have won many high-end awards such as the first prize of the Pride Golden Bell Music Award of China of Guangdong Division, and excellence awards of Yangtze River National College Piano Competition. Many students of Music Department have got master’s and doctoral degrees at famous music colleges both home and abroad. Many teachers have won awards of Excellent Tutor in music contests above provincial-level. More than 40 papers of teachers in music department have been published in music core magazines. More than 20 scientific projects at provincial and national level are accomplished or studied. More than 10 textbooks and monographs are compiled. We have established 3 teaching bases outside the school and 9 industry university cooperation bases. Teachers and students in music department have held many concerts in famous music halls.
